Dr.Tulunay founded the Astronautics Department in İTÜ in 1986. She has refereed, evaluated and reviewed projects in the EU Framework Programme (FP6) on Space Weather and Earth Observation from Space; ESF Network; NATO Research Grants; NATO ASI; Fulbright Scholarships. She also referees articles for several international publications.
Having served on numerous committees, she has gained extensive administrative experience in her capacities as Faculty Senator, Department Head, Associate Dean and Dean. She has been member of Management Committees and Panels in several international scientific foundations such as NATO, COST, ESF, and in Turkey, TÜBİTAK, METU, İTÜ etc.. She belongs to several Turkish, European, and American Physics and Geophysical Societies, including AIAA; EGU, KALDER-Turkish Society for Quality.
