M. Semih Yucemen is Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) and also Head of the Earthquake Studies Department at the same university. He took his BS degree in Civil Engineering (1968) at METU, M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering (1969) at Georgia Institute of Technology and Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering (1973) at University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign).
He has been a faculty member of Middle East Technical University since 1973 and had visiting faculty positions in the Civil Engineering Departments of different universities in USA, Jordan and North Cyprus. He was the Director of the Earthquake Engineering Research Center, METU during Sept. 2004-Feb.2008 and member of the Administrative Board of the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (TCIP) during Oct. 2002-March 2008.
He is currently member of the Advisory Board of the OECD International Network on Financial Management of Large Scale Disasters.
His main fields of research and interest are: Probabilistic modeling, risk and decision analysis in civil engineering. Theory of reliability and evaluation of reliability of structural and geotechnical systems. Structural dynamics and earthquake engineering. Seismic hazard analysis and earthquake insurance. Seismic reliability of lifeline networks. Random functions and applications. Stochastic methods for damage assessment.

He has a book and about 130 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings related to these topics.
